The twentieth meeting of the International Auschwitz Council was held on November 23 in the Chancellery of the Prime Minister of the Republic of Poland. The main subjects of discussion were issues connected with the financing of memorials located on the former grounds of German Nazi concentration camps and extermination centers in occupied Poland.

The Significance of Education about Auschwitz

The Program Board of the International Center for Education about Auschwitz and the Holocaust has met at the Auschwitz-Birkenau State Museum.Members of the Board heard a report on the Center’s work over the past year. There was much discussion of the innovative educational programs addressed to inmates of penal institutions in Małopolska and Silesia, and to people with learning disabilities.

Medical Instruments from Auschwitz

A unique set of more than 150 medical instruments has been donated to the Auschwitz-Birkenau State Museum. The items were discovered after liberation in the zone around the Nazi German Auschwitz-Birkenau.They remained in private hands for over 60 years until a local collector and history buff arranged for them to be donated to the Museum.

Thing of Fundamental Value

Piotr Kadlcik, chairman of the Alliance of Jewish Religious Communities in Poland and a member of the European Congress of Jews, visited the Auschwitz Memorial. He also holds a seat on the Council of the Auschwitz-Birkenau Foundation, which raises funds to preserve the authenticity of the site of this Nazi German concentration camp and extermination center. Kadlcik met with Museum director Piotr Cywiński aqnd toured the conservation workshops.

New Visitor Service Center

The results of the competition for the architectural design and urban planning of the new Visitor Service Center at the Auschwitz Memorial have been announced. The contest aimed at developing a comprehensive solution including a service center, hotel, parking facilities, and the accompanying infrastructure.
