18th March of the Living

About 7 thousand people from 55 countries around the world, including a thousand Poles, took part in the 18th March of the Living, in tribute to and commemoration of the victims of the Holocaust. As has become a tradition, the March started at the Arbeit macht frei gate at site of the Auschwitz I camp.

Meeting of Historians

In early May, the Museum held a symposium and workshops for historians and young people working on the subject of the Nazi German concentration and death camps. It was the first event of its kind in Poland.

Music for Remembrance

The Ensemble Voix Étouffées chamber orchestra from France appeared at the concert auditorium of the Oświęcim music school. Its only concert in Poland was part of a European tour by the ensemble, which for years now has been commemorating the work of composers persecuted by the Nazi regime.

Auschwitz-Birkenau Foundation

Auschwitz-Birkenau Foundation has begun operations. At conference in Chancellery of Prime Minister in Warsaw, founder, Professor Władysław Bartoszewski, presented its structure and introduced people who have been entrusted with work.

Council of Europe Seminar

Participants in a seminar on Auschwitz and the Holocaust in the context of teaching about memory in Europe visited the Auschwitz-Birkenau State Museum.
