During European Football Championship Euro 2012 which took place in Poland and Ukraine the site of the former Nazi German concentration and extermination camp Auschwitz was visited by footballers from England, Germany, Italy and the Netherlands. Moved by this experience, they did not hide their emotions which one can see in a short film shot during their visit
The 21st March of the Living was held on April 19 at the former German Nazi concentration and extermination camp Auschwitz–Birkenau. The sound of the shofar gave the signal to begin the March from the gate with the inscription "Arbeit macht frei". Participants walked in silence to Birkenau where the main ceremony was held near the ruins of the gas chambers and crematoria.
“Auschwitz-Birkenau. The Place Where You Are Standing...” is the latest publication of the Auschwitz-Birkenau State Museum. The album presents 31 historical photographs taken by SS men in 1944 depicting the extermination of Jews in the Auschwitz II-Birkenau camp. They were set in contrast with present-day photographs of the same locations.
Published for the first time in full by the Auschwitz State Museum, the Sketchbook is a unique work. Twenty-two drawings done by an anonymous prisoner were hidden in a bottle in the foundations of one of the barracks at Auschwitz II-Birkenau not far from the gas chambers and crematoriums, where they were found two years after the war.
