Guests from Yad Vashem. A two-week seminar at Auschwitz site
In July, the Visitors Services Section organized a two-week seminar on "The Collective Awareness of Auschwitz Concentration Camp in Poland and Around the World." Participants included 18 staff members and historians from Yad Vashem in Israel and 3 from the Holocaust Museum in Washington.
During the seminar, Museum staffers and guest lecturers gave a series of talks on such subjects as "The Conflict of Polish and Jewish Memories," "The German and Soviet Occupation of Poland from 1939," "Jews in Auschwitz Concentration Camp," "Jews in Poland After the Second World War," "The Social and Political Situation in Poland after 1989," "Poles in Auschwitz Concentration Camp," and "Polish Attitudes towards Auschwitz during the Occupation."
Participants in the seminar were also offered a chance to participate in excursions designed to introduce them to the history and culture of Poland. The seminar was planned by Visitors Services Section staff members Wanda Hutny and Danuta Bzduła, who also looked after the guests.
