A Journey into Memory: Platform 21

02-05-2006

An exhibition prepared by the Children of the Shoah Association, the Cultural Affairs Office at the Jewish Community in Milan, and the Foundation for Jewish Documentation in Milan will be open from April 25 to June 10, 2006 in the main hall of the Visitors Reception building at the Auschwitz-Birkenau State Museum.

The patron of the exhibition is the President of the Italian Republic.

The Polish General Consulate in Milan and the Auschwitz-Birkenau State Museum in Oświęcim supported the preparation of the Polish version.

The exhibition is devoted to the transport of January 30, 1944—one of 15 RSHA transports of Italian Jews deported to Auschwitz from the Central Station in Milan. There were 605 people on this particular train, which reached Auschwitz on February 6. Twenty of them survived the war.

The exhibition is made up of 27 panels, some of which feature information on the political background of persecution in Italy and of the deportations. The majority of them, however, present the fates of the families of Jews who found themselves on the January 30, 1944 transport. Family photographs and documents illustrate these peoples' stories.
